Ynysybwl RFC’s recent successful league run came to an abrupt end at Bedlinog. The promotion chasing home side capitalised on a particularly disappointing second half performance from a Bwl side once again not living up to their potential.
The visitors had the home scrum under pressure early in the game and Ceri Cummings opened the scoring when the Bwl were awarded a penalty at a scrum.
Mid way through the half Bedlinog were on level terms and would have increased their lead had it not been for some solid defending by the Bwl.
On the half hour the break through came for the home side. Their scrum held firm 5 meters short of the Bwl line in the middle of the filed. The ball was swung wide for the first try of the afternoon.

Bedlinog looked much the stronger outfit in the second period. Within 5 minutes of the restart they had extended their lead following a break from a line-out.
And they soon added their third try of the afternoon with a break up the opposite wing with the Bwl guilty of some poor tackling. The added conversion gave Bedlinog a comfortable 22 – 3 advantage.
Bedlinog’s try to earn them a bonus point came under controversial circumstances. A penalty award deep inside the Bwl 22 was quickly taken as the Bwl waited for a kick at goal, with one of the Bedlinog players being treated for an injury close to the try line. The referee allowed the quick take and virtual walk over of a try.
The try of the afternoon came with the game already won. Good handling and support play by the Bedlinog forwards and backs, moving the ball from one side of the filed to the other for their final score of the afternoon.
As the home side took their foot off the pedal the Bwl finished the match the stronger and Gareth King stormed over for a late consolation try.
